The back, ribs and scroll were made by Giovanni Grancino c. 1700. The soundboard, also the work of Giovanni Grancino and roughly from the same period, comes from a different violin. It was skilfully adapted by W.E. Hill and Sons during the early 20th Century.
This handsome violin by this pre-eminent maker of the classical Milanese school is a very fine playing instrument, equally suited for solo playing and chamber music.
