Violin by Angelo Toppani (Rome c.1745)

Angelo Toppani was recorded as a ‘violinaro’ near Chiesa Novara in Rome from 1742 to 1748 and from 1760 ‘near the Palazzo del Drago’. His work is in the style of David Tecchler and features a transparent golden-brown varnish.

A good and characteristic example of this maker’s work, with original label dated 1745. The instrument is in fresh condition, with a few historical repairs (graft of wood near button, and replacement wing on the bass side of the table).
